RALPH STONE - Owner, Landscape Architect, Arborist

Ralph Stone is a licensed Landscape Architect and Certified Arborist in the State of California with broad experience in landscape design, installation, and maintenance.  In 1978/1979 he served as President of the San Diego chapter of the American Society of  Landscape Architects (ASLA).  He is currently a member of the ASLA, the California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA), the International Society of Arboriculture, and has served as a design consultant for several California cities.  The focus of his work has been water conserving landscape designs and irrigation systems.  His past experience includes six years as a supervisory Landscape Architect with the California State Department of Transportation (Cal Trans) with responsibilites for highway design, landscape, and revegetation programs and irrigation systems.

Mr. Stone has been a design representative for landscape maintenance and construction on major individual irrigation and drainage systems and revegetation projects throughout California. Mr. Stone is a strong proponent of the use of reclaimed water. In 1975, while employed as a Landscape Architect for CalTrans, he organized a task force of state and local agencies to study the use of reclaimed irrigation for the I-15 (Escondido Bypass) landscaping projects. In 1976 Mr. Stone pioneered the use of drip emitter irrigation for Southern California freeways. His original design concepts remain as a cost savings tool for major irrigation systems. Mr. Stone's experience also includes substantial success in park design and construction,m and recreational vehicle park master planning and consultation. He often serves as a consultant to home owners associations on landscape installation and maintenance.

Mr. Stone has been a member of the Home Builders Council of the San Diego Building Association. He is often called upon to be an expert witness in the field of landscape architecture litigation. For many years he has been a judge for the California Council of Landscape Contractors Awards Program, the landscape and garden exhibits at the Southern California Exposition, and for the San Diego County Water Authority Citizen/ Industry Water Conservation Award Program. In 1983, Mr. Stone was elected as a Director of the San Diego Water District. Mr. Stone has also served on the regional Public Arts Advisory Council, and he has been hired as an expert examiner for western regional and state-wide licensing examinations.

Mr. Stone is well versed in working with local and federal government agencies and in meeting their diverse needs for timely completion of work within budget constraints.

JEFF BRIGGS -  Senior Associate, Landscape Architect, Arborist

Jeff Briggs has been licensed as a Landscape Architect in the State of California since 1990 and as a Certified Arborist since 2004.

Mr. Briggs serves Ralph Stone & Associates as a senior associate providing conceptual design, construction document preparation, as well as project management services.  He has been responsible for the design and construction implementation on a variety of public, commercial, educational, as well as single family and multi-family housing projects.  Mr. Briggs has also provided construction observation on schools, commercial projects, homeowner association installations, industrial buildings, as well as single family residential projects.

As project manager, Mr. Briggs has developed various design improvement plans including hardscape, drainage, lighting, planting, and irrigation layout, recreational amenities with swimming pools, slope erosion control, and fire protection.  His involvement has also included coordination of associated design disciplines and clients with various agency approvals.  On several water treatment and storage facilities throughout San Diego County, Mr. Briggs has been responsible for coordinating the landscape design and installation of the facilities, including native habitat enhancement and view corridor restoration.  In public park projects, Mr. Briggs has been responsible for the initial conceptual design, incorporating client and community input, preliminary design, construction document preparation, consultant coordination, cost preparation and value engineering.

Mr. Briggs has also provided a number of Homeowners Associations with investigative reports, design recommendations, construction documentation, and project observation services on landscape renovation and repair plans. 

Mr. Briggs has extensive knowledge and skill in conceptual landscape design, presentation drawings, site master planning, construction document preparation, cost estimating, AutoCAD, and client/project coordination.
